Recently, Rolls-Royce and Portugal's WestSea shipyard signed an agreement to supply the Bergen diesel engine to an expedition oceangoing ship of the Portuguese Mystic.
According to the agreement, Rolls-Royce will supply two Bergen C25:33L8P main engines and one Bergen C25:33L6P auxiliary dual-fuel generator set, as well as a variable-speed operation low-voltage AFE "SAVeCUBE" power system.
It is reported that the 8-cylinder C25:33L8P engine has a maximum continuous power of 2.66 MW and 1000 rpm. In addition, Rolls-Royce will provide automation and control systems, a complete Promas propulsion system and two controllable pitch propellers, and integrate two flap rudders, steering gears and channel propellers. The maximum continuous power of the 6-cylinder C25:33L6P auxiliary machine is 2 MW and 1000 rpm.
The new ship will be named "MS World Explorer", 126 meters long, 19 meters wide, 4.8 meters draught, 9300 tons of tonnage, designed by Giuseppe Tringali, Italy, for accommodation with 200 passengers and 111 crew members. With a speed of 16 knots, enhanced hull and propellers, capable of sailing in the ice zone, expected to be completed in October 2018, will be Mystic's first expedition ocean-going ship, sailing in Antarctica from November to March each year. In the remaining seasons, there will be access to various small ports around the world that cannot enter large cruise ships.
