According to foreign media reports, affected by China's new import policy, FCA decided to reduce the production of Alfa Romeo and Maserati models in Italy.
FCA revealed to its union that the Chinese government's new import policy for dealers and car companies led to a sharp decline in sales of Alfa Romeo and Maserati. The policy also prohibits car companies from stocking at dealerships.
According to a statement issued by the FIM and FIOM unions, the FCA's production reduction decision is as follows:
â— Production of the new Maserati Levante SUV at the FCA Mirafiori plant will be closed for two weeks between October and November.
â— Production of the Alpine Romeo Stelvio SUV and Giulia sedan at the Cassino plant in central Italy has reduced the number of productions per shift to 265 units since this month. Prior to this, the decision to suspend production every Friday since mid-September also reduced production by at least 2,000 units.
FCA also declined to comment on this production cut.
Giulia and Stelvio began delivering to China this spring, but after a good start, they fell sharply. Alfa Romeo delivered 1,006 vehicles and 2,666 Stelvio to Chinese dealers in June and July, but delivered only 227 in August. Maserati also suffered the same dilemma. In July and August, Levante delivered an average of 350 vehicles, while the average monthly delivery in the first half of the year exceeded 800.
Felipe Munoz, global automotive analyst at JATO Dynamics, said the FCA's sales targets for Levante, Giulia and Stelvio were too high. He said that according to current data, Alfa Romeo's sales this year are expected to be between 130,000 and 140,000, which, although not meeting the target, is still a good result.
FCA CEO Malchow said at the beginning of the year that Alfa Romeo's sales this year will reach 170,000, including the Giulietta sedan, the Mito small hatchback and the 4C coupe.
Fiat and Jeep production reduction FCA has begun to reduce the production of the Fifi Fiat 500X and Jeep Freeman SUVs. Although the demand for micro SUVs in Europe is still rising, 500X and Freeman are affected by the increase in competitors, and sales in Europe have declined.
This year, officials at the Melfi plant have been temporarily suspended for 21 days, including 11 days in the third quarter. This also caused the production of these two models to fall by nearly 25% this quarter.
According to data provided by JATO, Fiat 500X sales in Europe fell 15% to 62,999 units in August, while Jeep Freedom's sales fell 1% to 52,203 units, while the latter's sales in the US increased slightly by 0.5% to 70,859. Car.
In the third quarter, FCA's overall production at the Ida Plant increased by 3%, and the Cassino plant's output increased by 60% due to the new release of Stelvio and the full production of Giulia.
