According to media reports, at the recent meeting of the WTO Committee on Technical Trade Barriers , many WTO members raised trade concerns related to tire issues.
The tire issues that this conference pays attention to are mainly: Members have expressed concerns about the tire-related regulatory measures introduced by the European Union and Saudi Arabia. In response, China has questioned the scientific basis for the European Union's tire testing methods and stressed that it will add a lot of costs to manufacturers.
At this meeting, the member delegations put forward 17 new trade concerns and 39 trade concerns that have been proposed previously. This has increased the number of trade concerns raised by WTO members this year to 92, reaching the second peak since 1995.
It is reported that the Technical Committee on Trade Barriers often holds information exchange meetings for WTO members. This dialogue helps resolve trade frictions and avoid unnecessary trade disputes.
Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement
At the meeting of the committee, WTO members have the opportunity to raise concerns about trade if they believe that other members implement measures that are not in conformity with the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade.
These specific trade concerns (STCs) may be related to the standards, testing and certification procedures, rules, or labeling requirements imposed by the importing party, and these measures may have an impact on the producers and consumers of such commodities. STCs may emphasize potential trade restrictions and include them in the WTO's regular trade monitoring reports.
At the meeting, members also agreed on the work plan of the Committee on Technical Trade Barriers in 2016-2018.
