Recently, Changan Ford Motor Co., Ltd. announced that its new transmission plant in Chongqing with an investment of US$350 million will be put into production. This is Changan Ford's first gearbox factory in China and will be the first to produce two gearboxes. The products produced after the new plant is put into operation will cover a wide range of Changan Ford's bestselling models, such as Fox, Maverick, Mondeo and others.
It is understood that the gearbox factory covers an area of ​​75,000 square meters, with an initial design annual production capacity of 400,000 units to help meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers. Changan Ford Transmission Factory adopts advanced production technology to ensure quality and enhance environmental performance. For example, the Ford MQL process standard adopted by Chang'an Ford Transmission Factory has greatly reduced the need for machining cooling systems and reduced the use of energy; the gear “dry roll†technology used in the gear machine shop is effective. The reduction of hazardous liquid emissions has been reduced; and for local parts suppliers, the transmission factory has required the use of recyclable and reusable parts boxes and baskets to effectively control pollution and protect the environment. At the same time, Changan Ford Transmission Factory is also taking full consideration of ergonomics and manufacturing quality, and adopting automated manufacturing processes for key manufacturing processes. The ergonomically designed assembly line will benefit employees.
The formal production of the gearbox factory marks the formal formation of a trinity of Changan Ford's industrial vehicle, engine, and transmission. The plant will accompany Changan Ford’s further market expansion with the two existing vehicle factories in Chongqing and the soon-to-be-completed third plant in Chongqing and the Hangzhou plant. In the near future, Chongqing will become Ford’s largest production base outside of Michigan.
