Bridgestone will reduce its rubber consumption by 50% over the next ten years

Masayuki Ishii, general manager of Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone Communications, said recently that Bridgestone plans to reduce rubber consumption by 50% in the next ten years.

Tire suppliers are seeking ways to reduce rubber consumption due to rising supply of rubber and rising market demand.

Ishiii stated that in the next decade, Bridgestone will significantly reduce the consumption of natural rubber and synthetic rubber through the use of new technologies. Ishiii declined to disclose the details of the new technology.

In 2010, Bridgestone will use 1.77 million tons of natural and synthetic rubber, which will increase by 24% year-on-year. Of which, 1.23 million tons of rubber were consumed from Japanese overseas factories.

Bridgestone director Yujiro Kanahara predicts that by 2015 global tire demand for passenger cars will increase by 20%, truck and bus tire demand will rise by 50%. China's tire demand growth in the next five years will reach 80%, exceeding other markets; India's passenger car tire demand growth will reach 50%.
