RFID market sales will increase by 17% this year to reach $9.2 billion

According to IDTechEx's latest research, the RFID market – including passive and active RFID tags, readers, software and services – will grow from $7.88 billion in 2013 to $9.2 billion this year, indicating that the market is within a year. Will grow by 17%.

In terms of market value, most of the growth is attributed to active RFID and real-time location system (RTLS) solutions, interrogators and tags. The passive UHF tag market is growing rapidly, and the research firm says that in 2014, the number of tags will increase from just over 3 billion last year to 3.9 billion.

IDTechEx estimates that 2.48 billion passive HF tags will be sold this year (since the average selling price is much higher than passive UHF tags), so the market value on HF tags is almost 10 times higher than UHF.

According to the research firm, passive UHF systems have the highest sales in the retail apparel sector – but there is still room for improvement, and in 2014 the apparel sector accounted for only 7% of the RFID application (countable) market.

IDTechEx said that it has been visited by RFID suppliers and found that in different technical fields, most of the value chain has new or old leadership.

However, few companies have sales of more than $100 billion.

IDTechEx expects RFID market sales to reach $30.2 billion in 2024.
